Well, finally had a chance to have a listen to your first foray into podcasting.

I enjoyed the conversational style of it - something we have always strived for with our own podcasts at MMM. You guys obviously get on well with each other and that helps a lot in producing an enjoyable podcast.

There was a great deal of background hiss present in the mp3 - something that I think can be easily avoided or at the very least substantially minimised by the use of noise reduction filters in programs such as Adobe Audition or Audacity. This hiss was the single most distracting thing and made it hard to listen to at points.

To keep me listening to future releases I would love a more review/discussion style of things rather than a “story recap” type of style. But like you say at the end, this first ep was more of a catchup ep so hopefully future releases will be more of a review/analysis than a story dump. I think too you will be able to cover a lot more shows once you have done the catchup.

The addition of theme music, advertisements and so forth will make the whole product a lot more polished, and I look forward to the second ep. Just get a handle on that hiss problem and the production will also improve immeasurably.

Thanks for your thoughts on episode 1 of OzPod.We both thought as we were making it that it was a bit rough and that future episodes would need to be much more polished.

We actually did use Audacity to record it, however being new to podcasting did not think to use reduction filters. One thing ive learnt from listening to lots of Podcasts is some “DW Podshock” can sometimes run for too long, which is why I think id like to try 2 possibly a maxiumum of 3 tv shows in one podcast, which hopefully make people want to hear more of us than less.

Im hoping Episode 2 will be done by at the latest Sunday and there should be quite a difference in the sound quality and overall presentation.

    Thanks again for your comments.

    Gary

I totally agree Steve, a recent Podshock show was over two hours long - and IMO those guys don’t have the banter at their disposal to make a show of that length interesting. Heck, hardly anybody has (MMM included!).

Personally I think you have the length right - 45 minutes to an hour is more than enough for an episode.

If you can get your hands on Adobe Audition it has some great tools to reduce the hiss and noise, and great tools for creating your future podcasts, especially if you want to put in theme music, ads etc. I use Audacity to record as well, but I then move into Audition to do the actual nuts and bolts of the editing.

    Looking forward to episode 2!
